FD Calculator — Fixed Deposit Maturity & Interest

An FD calculator projects what a fixed deposit is worth at maturity. Enter the amount, the rate you have been quoted, and the tenure, and it returns the maturity value, total interest and the effective annual yield. Indian banks compound term deposits quarterly by default, which is why a 7.00% FD actually yields 7.19% a year. This is the growth calculation — for the cost of closing a deposit early, use the FD break calculator.

Figures are gross of TDS. If interest from one bank exceeds ₹50,000 in a financial year (₹1,00,000 for senior citizens), the bank deducts 10% TDS under Section 194A unless you file Form 15G or 15H.

Frequently asked questions

Maturity value uses compound interest: A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt), where P is the principal, r the annual rate as a decimal, n the number of compounding periods per year and t the tenure in years. Indian banks compound quarterly by default, so n = 4. A ₹1,00,000 deposit at 7.00% for one year compounds to about ₹1,07,186.

An FD calculator projects the maturity value if you hold the deposit to term. An FD break calculator works out what you receive if you close it early, after the bank downgrades the rate and deducts its penalty. Use this page to plan a deposit and the FD break calculator to price an early exit.

No — it shows gross maturity value. Banks deduct TDS at 10% when interest from a single bank exceeds ₹50,000 in a financial year, or ₹1,00,000 for senior citizens, under Section 194A. Your final credit will be lower by that amount unless you have filed Form 15G or 15H.

Most Indian banks compound term deposit interest quarterly. Some NBFCs and corporate deposits compound monthly, and Post Office Time Deposits compound annually. The compounding frequency changes the effective yield: 7.00% compounded quarterly is an effective 7.19% per year.

Most Indian banks pay senior citizens an additional 0.50% on term deposit rates, and some small finance banks pay 0.75%. The boost applies to the card rate for the tenure you book, so it compounds into the maturity value.
